First Day of Kindergarten for Wesley (3 days late)

My Big Boy is now a Kindergartener!! We had a wonderful short summer but it was finally time to begin a new path in elementary school. Of course, nothing ever really goes to plan around here.  Wesley did his staggered entry the week of July 9th and everything was great.  Sunday before his first real day I took the kids to the pool as one last moment of summer. We got home everything seemed okay, I fixed dinner and that is when Wesley complained he didn’t feel well.  Took his temperature and it was 102!!!

No other symptoms but fever. I was sure it was going to be fine by the morning and he would not miss the first day of kindergarten.  I was wrong…he not only missed the first day but the first 3 days of school. By Tuesday he couldn’t swallow and was still so sick.  OH MY GOODNESS!!! Come to find out he had Hand, Foot and Mouth.  Our first case ever.

Finally by Thursday Wesley was well enough to go to school.  However, the night before his poor little sister got it.  She was up all night crying and drooling and was a mess.  He might of been well but I was a mess along with Cailyn.

First Day of School…3 days late.  We mustard up just enough strength to get pictures… You can kind of tell he is still exhausted but he was ready!!!

Then we got to school.  I walked into the classroom but someone else lagged behind.  Here is my sweet, timid boy checking things out and realizing “nope, I am NOT going in there”

DSC_0948 DSC_0949

I tried talking him into going but I was already SO tired and worn out that I started getting tears in my eyes (you know the #1 thing they tell you NOT to do to assure your kid everything will be fine).  That is when he dug his heel in the ground and refused to go in.  I finally got the teachers attention and told her I thought it was best if I just leave him in the hallway and walk away (bawling).  I watched from a corner it take 3 adults to drag my kicking, screaming for mommy child into the classroom.  IT WAS AWFUL!!! I just stood there.  In moments like these you wonder am I doing the right thing, maybe he wasn’t ready, maybe I am not ready…then another teacher asked me if he was my first child to go to school.  I thought to myself “Yes, I am just a crazy women who on the 4th day of school still can’t get my stuff together!!!”

Well, he made it in.  He only stood in the corner of the classroom for an hour watching everyone… (No words)  The teacher was kind enough during lunch write me to tell me that day he was doing much better and they even caught a few smiles.  Thank you, Lord!!

When we got home he was head over heels in love with school!!! Of course.  All that drama…again no words!!

That evening the school had a Back to School Night. I normally don’t care much for these things but I want the kids to feel like they are apart of the school community so we went.  I am so glad we did.  Check out these smiles.  Yep, it was a hit.

We are officially in kindergarten and Wesley is doing GREAT!! He loves it and Wesley has adjusted very well.  The teachers just rave over what a well behaved child he is!!!!! Let’s hope he keeps that up!!   I should mention thanks to our crazy track three schedule he was in school all of 7 days before he got a 3 week vacation!

Personal Note to Wesley-  I love you son and I am so incredibly proud of you!!! Continue to stay brave and strong and always pray!!

What do two kids do when they are bored?  Dress up!! haha!

***What is really interesting after I looked at them in each other clothes and how well they actually fit each other, I realized that Wesley has a wider waist then Lawson.  Go figure.

Lawson’s 1st Day of Second Grade

Lawson woke up on July 9th and all of a sudden she was an official 2nd grader.  To celebrate I made her a very special breakfast!!

IMG_1256

Here is my girl on the first day of second grade. Can you tell how much has changed during her whole 10 days between grades?DSC_5286

We switched schools AGAIN and lucky for me Lawson loves school so it wasn’t too big of a deal that we were changing AGAIN.  The most shocking thing for us is we have a 2nd grader now.  How did that happen?

As tradition goes we got pictures of Lawson with all her siblings…DSC_5293

And with the aging mommy…(wow, I should photo shop those wrinkles…)DSC_5303

One last picture of my baby girl before we hit the road and we are off too school.

Lawson wouldn’t let me bring in my big camera (something about embarrassing her????) so the phone camera was going to have to do…she also wouldn’t let me give her a kiss bye.  We had words about that after she got home.

Lawson’s desk area.  It was so funny, Lawson said to me “our morning work is coloring?  Doesn’t she know we are not kindergarteners?”

Here is Lawson’s teacher.  From everything we are hearing from Lawson we can tell we are going to love her.  Ms Reed is organized, sweet, and really cares for the kids.  IMG_1260

If you want to follow along what is going on in Lawson’s classroom her teacher has a blog…

There is also a blog for the art class

The thing I can tell you about 2nd grade so far…

1. Lots of homework

2. Lawson is learning tons

3. Lawson’s favorite subject is still art Smile

Last Day of 1st Grade

Lawson is officially done with 1st grade and now a second grader!! So, before she is in high school I thought I better write and show pictures of her last day of 1st grade.

Not many people are as unfortunate as Lawson and MISS their last day of school.  After she got home from her swim meet on Thursday night she threw up many many times.  The stomach bug strikes again. (Anyone know how to get red stain off of a white carpet?)

She did not have a fever (ever) but I knew I couldn’t send her to school so for the first half of the morning she was like this…DSC_5219

I knew school was out of the question and I was sad to tell Wesley that out trip to the beach was probably out too…

Then around 11AM she said “I am feeling better” plus she ate something and it stuck so I told the kids pack your stuff we are going to the beach.  I first went to Lawson’s school so she could say bye to her friends.  She is no longer going to Timber Drive and I wanted to give her the chance to say bye.  It was the sweetest display of friendship I have ever seen that I started crying.

Mommy reflection: I pretty much  ripping my daughter out of a school I love in hopes that she will go to the “right” middle school and high school. Plus, ideally I would like my kids to go to the same elementary school when they go.  Is that too much to ask?   Ugh…I am getting side tracked, but seriously 3 schools in three years…I try to remember I went to lots of elementary schools and I am not too messed up…(don’t comment on that part, please!)

I did get some pictures of Lawson on her last day of school (well, before we left for the beach anyway!)

Lawson 7 years old Last day of 1st grade

Here is Lawson on her first day of 1st Grade and her last day…Lawson First and Last Day of 1st grade C

She ended 1st grade with all three’s and fours for “grades” She is a smart, smart girl and loves school.  Her teacher told us she was an absolute joy to teach and if she had a classroom full of Lawsons she would never retire.  haha!!

I am going to leave you with a little flash back from Kindergarten.

Oh my, I thought I was doing okay on the whole not crying thing on her first day of 2nd grade but this is not helping…I will have to get back to her 1st day of 2nd grade at a later date.

My baby girl is growing up and this little girl could not make me any prouder!!! I love my Lawson!!

Lauren’s visit to NC with 2 kids (back in May)

I have a lot of catching up to do…

Lauren had a wedding to attend here in NC, so she decided to pack her bag and bring down 2 kids in tow.  She had a great trip down and we got to enjoy her wonderful company for 4 days.  Of course, while she was here she just had to go with the flow and join us for a few of the kids scheduled events.

She got to attend Lawson’s Dance Fest.  Look at sweet, Haywood!DSC_4948

Lawson’s First Crush

It is official Lawson has her first crush.  How do I know?…I just read the writing on the wall (literally)

I love jack

When I saw this I asked Lawson “What is this?” She said “What? you said we can love our friends!” Heavy sigh from mommy after this comment…what do you say??

Then Lawson and I had the best conversation at dinner one night about her boy friend, Jack.  It was one of those conversations that I just wanted to laugh but I did not want to deter her from talking to me.  Our conversation started like this…

L: Mom, Jack said a whole entire sentence to me. (As she floated back into her chair and her eyes staring into space looking all dreamy)

M: Really, a whole sentence? What does he normally say to you?

L: STOP! STOP! STOP!

M: Why does he say stop?

L: Because we are chasing him and he wants us to stop!

M: Why are you chasing him?

L: Because if you like someone, you chase them!

DUH!!!

No, idea what Jack looks like but I know for sure he is my daughter’s first crush!

Lawson GS 100th anniversary

Sigh, my little girl is growing up!
